As the estimated value of the goods seized, 95% (more than 418 million euros) is the industrial property while the value of items related to intellectual property amounted to 19.8 million euros, which must be added the economic damage resulting from the unauthorized exploitation on the Internet of intellectual property rights. The total value of goods seized has increased by 13% over 2008 (438 million euros in 2009 from 385 million last year), despite the number of seized goods fell by 30.7% ( 7.4 million products in 2008 versus 5.1 million in 2009). 32.3% of these objects were toys, leather goods and accessories 10.9%, 7.8% computer equipment, audiovisual material 7.7% and 7.2%, phonographic material.
to region, Madrid was where a greater number of interventions by the Security Forces of the State, with 25.2%, followed by Andalusia (24%) and Valencia (18.2 %). Industrial Property
Last year, the Security Forces of the State for activities carried out 2,014 interventions that violate intellectual property rights, arrested 2,198 persons and seized 4.1 million objects. The economic value of these material costs are at least 418.2 million euros. By sector, worst hit was the leather goods and accessories (42% of the total value of seizures corresponded to these products), followed by jewelry and watches (16.7%), computing (16.1%) and toys (10%) . It also highlights the head of all the toys sector interventions (32'5% of total) which shows that more and more counterfeit products that affect the safety of consumers.
By seizing points, 51.3% of interventions related to the infringement of industrial property rights developed in factories or warehouses, 25.8% and retail establishments, 17.7% were tax sheltered and 2.4%, illegal street vending.
As autonomous communities, highlights the number of interventions developed in Andalusia (27.8%), in Valencia (17.7%), Madrid (13.4%) and Catalonia (12.2 %). Copyright
In 2009, police interventions of products protected by intellectual property rights have increased by 17% (2,570 compared to 2,184 in 2008). In these proceedings, the National Police and Civil Guard arrested 2,933 people and seized more than a million items valued at 19.8 million euros. This figure would to add further the economic harm through misuse of Internet intellectual property rights. By sector, 37.7% recorded audiovisual interventions, closely followed by the phonograph, with 35.5%. The remaining sectors are below 3%.
As to the place of seizure, in 2009 there was a significant decrease of street trading (which fell from 81% of the interventions in 2008 to 41.5% in 2009) and increased interventions homes, which reached 50.7% whereas in 2008 only accounted for 8.2% of interventions.
For communities Madrid was developed in 34.4% of interventions, followed by Andalusia (20.9%) and Valencia (18.6%).
